Terms of Use
Last updated: 9 October 2026
Welcome to SREMAN. These Terms of Use explain the conditions under which you may access and use SREMAN, a platform intended to support systematic reviews, evidence synthesis and meta-analysis.
SREMAN aims to make research workflow tools accessible, particularly to researchers who have limited financial resources. By accessing or using the service, you agree to these terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.
1. Purpose of SREMAN
SREMAN provides online tools intended to assist research workflows, which may include review planning, bibliographic record management, screening and evidence synthesis. Available features may change as the project develops.
2. Free access for research
SREMAN is currently offered free of charge through its official website. The aim of this project is to support accessible and equitable research, including research conducted with limited funding.
Researchers may use the hosted service for legitimate research purposes regardless of whether they are affiliated with a university, hospital, nonprofit organisation, government institution, independent research group or commercial organisation.
Free access does not mean that the software source code is open source or that users receive ownership of the software. The author may change or discontinue features or the free-access arrangement as the project develops, subject to applicable law and any commitments the authors have made.
3. Permitted use
You may access and use the available SREMAN features for legitimate research and related academic or professional activities, subject to these terms and applicable law.
Your institutional affiliation does not, by itself, prevent you from using the free service. However, access to the hosted platform does not grant permission to reproduce, redistribute, sell or commercially exploit the underlying software.
4. Software ownership and restrictions
The original SREMAN source code, software design, documentation and original website materials are protected to the extent provided by applicable intellectual property laws. Ownership remains with the relevant rights holder, subject to third-party rights and any applicable agreements.
Unless the relevant rights holder has given prior written permission, or applicable law otherwise permits the activity, you must not:
- Copy, publish, distribute or make the private SREMAN source code available to others.
- Sell, rent, sublicense or commercially redistribute copies of the SREMAN software.
- Repackage or offer the SREMAN software, or a substantially reproduced version of it, as a competing product or service.
- Modify and redistribute the software or create and distribute derivative software based on protected SREMAN code.
- Use the SREMAN name, branding or other protected materials in a way that falsely suggests endorsement or affiliation.
Nothing in these terms prohibits activities that cannot lawfully be restricted, or use of third-party materials under the permissions granted by their respective licences.
5. Commercial organisations and research outputs
Employees, students and researchers affiliated with commercial organisations may use the hosted SREMAN service for legitimate research purposes under the same free-access arrangement.
The restriction on commercial exploitation concerns the SREMAN software and protected project materials. It does not automatically prohibit a user from publishing research, using their research findings in professional work or commercially using their own research outputs, subject to the rights of third parties and applicable law.
A separate written agreement may be required for activities such as licensing the SREMAN source code, incorporating protected SREMAN code into another product, redistributing the software or entering into a commercial software partnership.
6. Responsible and lawful use
You must not use SREMAN to:
- Engage in unlawful, fraudulent or harmful activity.
- Attempt unauthorised access to systems, accounts or information.
- Interfere with the security, stability or availability of the service.
- Conduct abusive automated requests that unreasonably burden the service.
- Infringe copyright, database rights, privacy rights or other third-party rights.
- Misrepresent generated results or workflow outputs as independently verified when they have not been verified.
7. Research responsibility
SREMAN is a research assistance tool. It does not replace independent academic judgement, methodological expertise, statistical review or critical appraisal.
You remain responsible for verifying search strategies, retrieved records, screening decisions, eligibility criteria, extracted data, calculations, statistical analyses, references and reported conclusions. SREMAN does not guarantee the completeness, accuracy or suitability of any research result.
8. User materials and third-party content
You remain responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights and permissions to upload, import, process, export or otherwise use research materials. Third-party journal articles, abstracts, databases, figures and datasets may be subject to copyright, database rights, access restrictions and separate terms.
SREMAN does not grant rights in third-party material merely because it can be accessed or processed through the platform.
9. Data storage and backups
The way information is stored or transmitted depends on the features used and the actual application and hosting configuration. Please read the Privacy and Data Storage notice for further information.
Do not rely on SREMAN as the sole repository for important research projects. Maintain your own appropriate backups using available export features and protect exported files containing confidential or unpublished information.
10. Availability and changes
The author aim to make SREMAN useful and accessible, but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, error-free operation or permanent availability of every feature. Maintenance, security issues, hosting problems and external service interruptions may affect the platform.
Features may be updated, changed, suspended or discontinued as the project develops. Where reasonably practicable, the author will aim to communicate material changes appropriately.
11. Disclaimer and liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, SREMAN is provided on an "as available" basis. The author do not guarantee that it will meet every research requirement or that all information, calculations or outputs will be accurate.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability, consumer right or other legal protection that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
12. Suspension of access
Access may be restricted where reasonably necessary to protect the service, respond to security threats, address material misuse or comply with applicable law. Any such action remains subject to applicable legal requirements.
13. Changes to these terms
These terms may be revised as SREMAN develops. The revision date will be updated when material changes are made. Your continued use of the service following an update will be subject to applicable law and any required notice or consent.
14. Applicable law
These terms are intended to operate subject to applicable laws of India and any mandatory legal requirements that apply to the user or service. Disputes will be addressed by a court or other forum with competent jurisdiction, as determined under applicable law.
