Privacy and Data Storage
Last updated: 9 October 2026
SREMAN aims to help researchers manage review projects while providing clear information about how information may be handled when using the service.
Important: The statements below must be checked against the current application, hosting setup and external services before publication. This notice should describe actual data handling, not assumptions.
1. Project data storage
SREMAN's current interface indicates that certain project information may be stored in the user's browser. The exact information stored, the browser storage mechanisms used and whether any information is also transmitted elsewhere must be verified against the current implementation.
Browser-local storage is different from server-side storage. However, it does not by itself establish that the website makes no network requests or that no technical information is recorded by the hosting provider.
2. Information processed when you use SREMAN
Depending on the deployed configuration and features used, information processing may include the following categories. Only the categories that actually apply should remain in this notice.
- Project information and review records handled by the application.
- Technical information processed by the web host, such as security logs or request metadata.
- Bibliographic search queries and requests sent to external research services.
- Messages and contact details you provide when contacting the project team.
- Information processed by analytics, monitoring, error-reporting or other integrations, if installed.
The specific information involved, purposes, service providers and applicable retention periods should be documented accurately before this page is finalised.
3. External research services
If a SREMAN feature sends search requests or other data to an external bibliographic database, API or research service, that service may process the information included in the request. Its own terms and privacy policy may apply.
Consult the relevant feature documentation and network requests to identify the services actually used. Do not assume that a request is private to the browser simply because the project interface is displayed on SREMAN.
4. Research confidentiality
Researchers should consider the confidentiality and sensitivity of unpublished research, manuscripts, personal data and restricted documents before entering or importing them. Use only materials you are authorised to process.
Browser-local storage does not automatically provide encryption, secure backups or protection against other people with access to the same device or browser profile.
5. Backups and data loss
Browser storage can be lost when site data is cleared, a browser profile is removed, a device fails or application behaviour changes. Users should export and back up important projects using the available features.
Protect exported files appropriately, particularly when they contain unpublished or confidential research data.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
The cookies, browser storage mechanisms and tracking technologies actually used by SREMAN should be identified and described here. Their purposes and any relevant third-party providers should be explained where applicable.
7. Retention and deletion
The retention of project data depends on where and how it is stored. Browser-local records may remain until deleted by the user, the application or the browser environment. Server logs, email correspondence and information held by external providers may have separate retention periods.
For privacy-related requests concerning personal information held by the project, please contact the team using the details on our Contact page.
8. Security
Reasonable safeguards should be used to protect information handled by the service. No website, electronic storage system or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.
9. Privacy rights and applicable law
Privacy rights and obligations depend on applicable law and the actual data-processing arrangements. Requests concerning personal information will be considered in accordance with the legal requirements that apply to the service.
10. Changes to this notice
This notice may be updated as SREMAN develops or its data-handling practices change. The latest revision date will appear at the top of the page.
